A Little About Me

Hallo! I'm the newest member of the team, completing the brotherly trio. Here's a little bit about myself…

I'm the oldest of three brothers, married to my wife of 30 years, and the proud father of two daughters. Born and raised in Southern Ontario, Canada, I grew up building with LEGO® bricks, drawing, and learning hands-on skills from my dad while repairing cars and fixing things around the house. Looking back, those experiences shaped the way I approach almost everything today. I enjoy understanding how things work, solving problems, and learning new skills. My brothers and I also spent countless hours outdoors, especially during Ontario's cold, snowy winters.

Growing Up in the Country

I grew up in the country, where much of what we ate came straight from our own land. Every year we grew about an acre of vegetables, including staples such as potatoes, corn, tomatoes, and beans. Apples and plums from our trees often became delicious desserts.

I still remember picking red and black currants for homemade jelly and helping bring in what felt like endless bushels of fresh produce each fall. Even the geese and chickens eventually found their way to our dinner table.

After a day spent outdoors, we'd head inside to another wonderful meal prepared by Mom, better known to all of you as Oma Gerhild. Her simple approach to traditional German cooking turned everyday ingredients into meals that brought our family together.

Those memories are a big part of why I'm so proud to help share her recipes, along with those passed down from her own Mutti, and make them easier for others to discover and enjoy.

Discovering My German Heritage

We never learned much German growing up, which worked out quite well for Mom and Dad whenever they wanted a private conversation. 😊

Since joining the family business, though, German has become part of my everyday life, and I'm enjoying learning more about the language and the traditions behind the recipes we share.

From IT to Just Like Oma

I've spent more than 30 years working in the Information Technology field, first in the nuclear industry and later in health care. Over the years I've learned to look at things from the user's perspective, solve complex problems, and pay close attention to the little details that make a difference.

Today I bring that same mindset to Just Like Oma. Whether I'm helping more people discover Mom's recipes through our social media channels, creating new ways to help you discover them, or improving the website, my goal is to help you spend less time searching and more time cooking.

It's a privilege to work alongside my family and help preserve the traditions Mom has shared for so many years.

I hope that, in my own way, I can help make your experience here even more enjoyable, whether you're discovering German cooking for the first time or continuing traditions that have been part of your family for generations.
