Hi.
I’m Eran.
You’ll usually find me in the kitchen trying to convince my kids that sauerkraut is “fancy cabbage.” I'm also here, writing on Quick German Recipes alongside my mom, the real Oma behind the site, who’s been keeping German food traditions alive long before I figured out how to properly boil a dumpling.
Most kids beg for McDonald’s or pizza on their birthday. Not me. I wanted rouladen, dumplings (with a not-so-secret crouton in the middle), and red cabbage. Every year. No hesitation.
It was a meal that left a permanent impression. Even now, if I had to choose a last supper, it wouldn’t involve KFC buckets or trendy TikTok meals. Just a proper German dinner, the way my mom made it. And now that I’ve got kids of my own, I want them to grow up with the same kind of food memories.
I’ve been experimenting in the kitchen for over 20 years, but lately I’ve been circling back to the German dishes I grew up with. Some days that means trying to recreate flavors exactly how I remember them. Other days, it means experimenting with a little less vinegar here, a little more “maybe the toddler will actually eat this” there.
German cooking has a way of being hearty, unfussy, and practical. It also makes the most of the hours spent cooking, and turning basic ingredients into tender meals that practically melt in your mouth.
However, I don’t always have time to spend 4 hours braising beef on a Tuesday. So the recipes I share here are tested, approachable, and meant for busy people with busy lives (and occasionally picky eaters).
Food is only one part of how I’ve been reconnecting with my German side. I also run:
Basically, whether it’s recipes, travel, or heritage, I keep finding myself back in the same place: trying to answer the question, what does it actually mean to be German at heart... and in the kitchen?
Quick German Recipes has been Oma’s online kitchen for over a decade. I’m here to add my voice, and a few new recipes, to the mix. Think of it as the next generation carrying things forward. One rouladen, or ambitious experiment, at a time.
So dig in. Try the recipes. And if your dumpling has a crouton hiding inside? Congratulations, it's a day to remember.

Meet with us around Oma's virtual table, pull up a chair, grab a coffee and a piece of Apfelstrudel, and enjoy the visit.
