Mutti's Lamb Stew With Green Beans (Lammeintopf Mit Bohnen)

Here's my recipe for lamb stew with a traditional German twist ... hearty, simple, and full of flavor. A one-pot comfort dish just like my Mutti used to make.

Prep Time:

15 minutes

Cook Time:

1 hour 15 minutes

Total Time:

1 hour 30 minutes

Servings:

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 to 1½ pounds (450 - 680 g) lean lamb
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1½ pounds (680 g) green beans, trimmed and cut in halves
  • approx. 3 cups (700 ml) water or beef broth
  • salt, pepper, summer savory
  • 1 to 1½ pounds (450 - 680 g) potatoes, sliced or diced

Instructions:

  1. Cut lamb into cubes, approx. 1 to 1½ inches.
  2. Place the lamb, green beans, and onions in a pot and just barely cover with water or broth. Season with salt, pepper, and summer savory.
  3. Bring to boil, reduce heat, and simmer about 45 minutes.
  4. Add potatoes and continue simmering about 30 minutes.
  5. Stir and re-season if necessary.
