German Recipe for Fried Fish – Oma's Bratfisch Rezept

This easy recipe for fried fish, aka Bratfisch, is such an easy dinner recipe idea. You can use almost any kind of fish filet or even a small pan fish for each person, and the resultant crispy coating is not a thick doughy one. It's thin, and crisp, and delicious!

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 4 fish filets or small fish (1 per person)
  • about 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • salt
  • all-purpose flour (about 1 cup)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • about 6 tablespoons bread crumbs
  • oil or butter to fry

Instructions:

  1. Sprinkle lemon juice over fish.
  2. Lightly sprinkle salt over fish to season.
  3. Heat oil or butter in frying pan over high heat.
  4. Dredge fish with flour, then dip into egg, and then coat with bread crumbs. Place into frying pan. Repeat with each piece of fish.
  5. Cook over high heat, turning once or twice, until fish is golden brown and cooked through (should flake with fork).
  6. Serve immediately.
